ErgoCleanse Water Filtration

The ErgoCleanse Internal KDF Bacteriostatic Water Filter

The ErgoCleanse internal Water filter is specially made for ErgoCleanse to have as long of a life as possible for a small filter that can fit inside the unit. It is specifically meant to be a filter for travel purposes.

The life of the internal filter can be extended, however, by installing a whole system water filter in the primary location (home or practice) of where the ErgoCleanse will be used. It is just as important to prevent the absorption into the body of dangerous chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride through the skin, as well as through drinking and absorption through the wall of the colon.

The KDF/Carbon internal filter has a capacity of 7,500 - 10,000 gallons. Each ErgoCleanse treatment lasting up to an hour will use as much as 15 gallons. With regular personal use of two or three sessions per week, the filter will last three years.

A more economical approach would be to install a shower head filter before the shower adapter, to pre-filter the water going to the ErgoCleanse. This will extend the life of the internal filter to be used for travel.

Additionally, an external UV water purifier is available, but a sediment pre-filter such as the above mentioned shower head filter is still recommended.

What is KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) and how does it work?

KDF's combination of high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys treats water through a process based upon the principle of redox (Oxidation-Reduction) through creating an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Free chlorine is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride. Some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to plate out onto the medium’s surface, thus being effectively removed from the water.

KDF helps control microorganisms by creating an environment that’s deadly to some microorganisms and that interferes with the ability of many other microorganisms to function. The use of KDF results in the total elimination of some contaminants and a great reduction of a wide variety of others.

In the internal water filter of the ErgoCleanse, KDF used in conjunction with granular activated carbon, extends the life of the granular activated carbon (GAC) while protecting the carbon bed against fouling by bacterial growth.

About UV Water Purification

Ultraviolet Water Filters Kill Bacteria & Viruses using short wave UV light. Ultraviolet purification is a proven technology (EPA approved) that can protect you from waterborne disease-causing microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi. Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection works by delivering concentrated amounts of UV light energy to the reproductive mechanism of the microbe, effectively killing it. As water passes through the UV chamber, it instantly disinfects it. The only maintenance is to replace the bulb once per year.

What is Ultra Violet (UV)

Although we cannot see UV light or rays, we are exposed to them every time we step out into the sun. In fact, UV light is responsible for causing sunburns. Ultraviolet systems use special lamps that emit UV light of a particular wavelength in order to effectively disinfect water. UV light works by attaching the genetic core (DNA) of bacteria and viruses, destroying their ability to function and reproduce. The process is simple but effective, destroying 99.99 percent of harmful microorganisms without adding chemicals to the water.

Highly effective: For over 25 years, UV technology has been trusted as a safe, cost-effective way to purify water and eliminate harmful microorganisms. It is a proven EPA endorsed technology that is currently being used by thousands of cities, bottled water manufacturers and homeowners around the world.

Unlike chlorine, UV systems are effective against both Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

Water Quality

Successful disinfection depends upon exposing water to a sufficient intensity of UV light for a sufficient amount of time. Water failing to meet certain general water quality guidelines may reduce the effectiveness of a system.

For a UV system to work effectively the water must be pre-filtered to exclude any particles larger than 5 microns (nominal) in size. This pre-filtration assures that particles large enough to block the UV light do not pass through the system. If they do the particles can act as a shield between the microorganism and the UV light – protecting the microorganism and allowing it to pass into the product water unharmed and alive.

If your water is not cloudy or smelly, you do not have rust stains in your toilet, and have softened water, your water, water quality should not be an issue for your UV system.

If you believe you have any of these water quality problems or are simply unsure, you may ESP Water Products at 1-877-377-9876 or esp1@harborside.com for testing method options for hardness, iron UV transmission (UVT) and turbidity.
