ErgoCleanse Advanced Self-Enema

ErgoCleanse

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't quite envision how it works. Is it easy to use?

Everyone who has purchased the ErgoCleanse has found it so self-explanatory that they reported they did not need to consult the directions to put it together and use. But it is important to read the directions thoroughly anyway. The main feature of the ErgoCleanse is the simplicity. The Directions For Use pdf. can be downloaded, and the Photo Gallery explains how it works. If you still have questions, please feel free to call and we will be happy to explain to you how it works in detail and answer all of your questions.

How long will the water filter last before it has to be replaced?

The ErgoCleanse internal water filter is specially made for ErgoCleanse to have as long of a life as possible for a small filter that can fit inside the unit. It is specifically meant to be a filter for travel purposes.

The life of the internal filter can be extended, however, by installing a whole system water filter in the primary location (home or practice) of where the ErgoCleanse will be used. It is just as important to prevent the absorption into the body of dangerous chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride through the skin, as well as through drinking and absorption through the wall of the colon.

The KDF/Carbon internal filter has a capacity of 7,500 - 10,000 gallons
. Each ErgoCleanse treatment lasting up to an hour will use as much as 15 gallons. With regular personal use of two or three sessions per week, the filter will last three years.

A more economical approach would be to install a shower head filter before the shower adapter, to pre-filter the water going to the ErgoCleanse. This will extend the life of the internal filter to be used for travel.

Additionally, an external UV water purifier can be added to your order, but a sediment pre-filter such as the above mentioned shower head filter is still recommended.

Can the ErgoCleanse be used in the case of Ulcerative Colitis that is aggravated and bleeding somewhat?

No, Ulcerative Colitis is a contraindication for any kind of colon irrigation. It is best to heal this episode and consult with your physician before considering the ErgoCleanse. See the list of contraindications to colon irrigation.

I used laxatives for many years and now nothing works. It sounds like the ErgoCleanse can save my life!

Few Americans have a textbook colon. The perfect picture of colon health doesn't exist in civilization anymore. Especially since you have used laxatives, your colon has atrophied like any muscle that isn't used enough.

Even though most American eat three times a day and should have three bowel movements a day, most people have movements only once a day, or every few days, rarely, or not at all without help. That "help" all too often is chemical laxatives that result in up being the death of your colon function.

There's hope. The colon is a muscle just like any muscle in your body, and it needs exercise to be toned. As it is a muscle ruled by the autonomic (involuntary) nervous system, you can't just do colon curls to get it back into shape. You have to stimulate the peristaltic muscle movement of the colon to get it to exercise. And the way to do that is with water. There are two ways to get water into your colon: eating water (raw fruits and vegetables, which are also high in fiber) and through irrigating your colon.

Are the tubes reusable?

Yes. Do not share tubes. For personal use, your tubes can be disinfected after each use and will never wear out. They will discolor, however, and you may want to replace them as needed for that reason.

How much time (on average) should a person expect this entire process to take from beginning  of water going in, to final release?

We recommend 45 minutes to an hour. After about 45 to 50 minutes of filling and releasing, turn the water off and slide off of the tube at the same time, and remain on the ErgoCleanse to release for another 5 or 10 minutes before cleaning up with the hand sprayer and getting up.

You mention a maximum flow of 1 quart/minute but don't say how many quarts a person should intake?

The water goes in and comes out constantly. You can modulate the water down to be a lesser flow, but at full flow, if you have a 45 to 60 minute session, as much as 45 to 60 quarts, or about 12 to 16 gallons of water will go in and out.

After one has filled their colon with all this water, do you immediately begin to release or do you have to (somehow) hold it all in for a while?  If so, how long?

You take water in and release often at the same time. Or there are times the water goes in for a little bit and then you have a release. You do not need to hold it. Let your colon do the work. Never try to push or bear down to release.

Do you then have to remove the Ergocleanse seat from the toilet then get back on the toilet seat in order to release?  Or do you release while still on the ergo seat?  If so, how does the seat control and direct the outward rush of messy waste water?

You stay on the seat the entire time and the waste goes down the drainage opening into the toilet. There is no mess. The tube stays in the entire time and the waste comes out around the tube.

When cleaning up with the bidet sprayer, isn't there a lot of uncontrolled water being splattered off of one's body and off the Ergocleanse seat?

No, you just
push back a little from the opening and direct the spray while still seated. The water drains down the drain opening into the toilet. There is no splashing or mess. You may want to use some soap at this time. By the time you get up, both you and the top of the ErgoCleanse is clean of waste. Then spray the top seat with disinfectant, tip it up and spray it with the hand sprayer, then disinfect, dry and put it away.

Is the rectal tube design similar to a colenema board - i.e. a short tube that allows water to go both ways?

Yes. The tube is only long enough to go into the rectum a couple of inches. When you purchase an ErgoCleanse, we will ask you what your weight and height is to make sure you have the right length tube.

Which is better to use, the flexible rectal tube or the firm one.

The ErgoCleanse comes with one of each
and we recommended you start with the dark blue firm tube as it is less likely be pushed out by the large releases of hard fecal matter you will be having at first. Then after regular use, you may want to switch to the softer tube. The internal diameter of the light blue flexible tube is larger and has a slightly gentler flow. You may not notice the difference and it is a matter of preference.

Is the water pressure much higher than required for an enema or colonic lying down?

The rate of flow is effective for hydrating the colon in any position. It is a gentle flow of 1 quart per minute maximum and you can adjust it down from there or even turn it off as there is a back-flow prevention valve at the out-flow. Lying down does not improve the efficacy of colon irrigation. It only makes it more uncomfortable. The objective of irrigation of the colon is to hydrate the over-dried fecal matter and stimulate the colon to release it. Therefore the natural position of elimination (squatting) is most effective for getting to water to go in and for waste to come out.

Can this equipment be used for retention of coffee like in the Gerson therapy?

No, you would not want to put coffee through the internal water filter. For retention enemas, it is much better to use a traditional enema bag and don't over-do the amount you try to retain. It is best to lay on your side while holding an enema. By using the ErgoCleanse earlier in the day or on the evening before the morning of the enema, the lower colon will clear to hold and to absorb the beneficial additives. Used in conjunction with the ErgoCleanse, enemas are much more effective, easier, and not messy.

I am very much interested in purchasing an ErgoCleanse but I need to know during traveling how can I know what hotel has what toilet rim height? Why cant it be adjustable???

The ErgoCleanse is a boomerang design ... designed to make the structure very easy to take apart and put together and extremely stable when weight is on it. Since the legs are at an angle, we use extra thick-walled tubing for strength. If we used a telescoping design, it would weaken the sturdiness of the legs. The legs do have an inch of adjustment, but in some cases that may not be enough. Therefore we offer the option to purchase an extra set of legs to travel with both sets to be ready to encounter both tall or short toilets. You could call ahead to the hotels where you will be staying to determine that they do have standard height toilets.

Even if a water filter is used, how can tap water be safe in any city or country? I have heard that it should always be either drinking water or distilled purified water to be used.

The water filter inside of the ErgoCleanse is a KFD water filter.
Free chlorine is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride. Some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to plate out onto the KDF medium surface, thus being effectively removed from the water.

KDF helps control microorganisms by creating an environment that is deadly to some microorganisms and that interferes with the ability of many other microorganisms to function. The use of KDF results in the total elimination of some contaminants and a great reduction of a wide variety of others.

We also offer the option of purchasing a UV water filter for extra protection.
You may read about  both kinds of filters on the Water Filtration page.

Do you sell disposable tips or other disposable items?  I don't even know what is involved in using your unit, but I know with some, you need a stock of some disposable things.

There are no "disposable" items. The unit comes with two reusable tubes: one firm to get started with, and a more flexible one to graduate to once you have been using the ErgoCleanse regularly. Just disinfect your tube between uses with a solution of vodka and water 5 to 1.

Where do I buy grain alcohol?

Grain Alcohol is available at liquor stores by the vodka. It is the highest proof and goes twice as far. It is a very pure and non-toxic alcohol. The ratio is 10 parts water to 1 part grain alcohol. With vodka it is 5 parts water to 1 part vodka.
